Fury rose in white-hot spears through Ryder #bestselling #PNR @sirenbookstrand #shifters #midweektease

The cage door opened and Ryder raised his head. Astonished, he saw Evie dressed only in a tank top and lace panties, dragged into the arena on a chain behind Doug.

The man marched Evie around the arena to the cheers of the crowd.

Fury rose in white-hot spears through Ryder. He longed to tear Doug’s head off.

Doug stood before him, a club in one hand that had spikes embedded in it and the length of chain with Evie handcuffed to the last links in the other. Brutality, bordering on madness, glinted in his eyes. His face contorted with hatred and power, he taunted Ryder.
“Look what I got for the hungry dog, a tasty little traitor—a sexy little bitch for it to feast on.” Spit flew from his twisted lips as he spoke.

Ryder flicked his gaze to Evie. She had fingerprint bruises all down each arm. Livid wheals lined her upper thighs. One of her cheekbones sported a huge bruise.

She gazed at Ryder forlornly.

Ryder lost it. He charged at Doug, barreling into the man, but all he succeeded in doing was catching a hit from the spiked club.

Guest #author @rpchanning brings #YA #PNR to the blog with 'Thirst'

240+ Pages
WITH BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHS

~ Kira Sutherland ~

After a near fatal accident (and getting cheated on by her 'boyfriend'), and beating up the lead cheerleader (with whom the boyfriend cheated...), and being labeled as having 'issues' in her school because she, uhm, sees ghosts, Kira is left with two choices:

1. Continue her 'therapy' (where she's told the ghost is a hallucination and also gets her legs ogled too often...)

Or

2. Go to Starkfield Academy, a boarding school for "Crazies and Convicts" (as the social media sites call them.)

She chooses the latter...

~ Cory Rand ~

Cory Rand has not had an easy life. His mother died in a car accident when he was twelve, and so did his mother's best friend...sort of. You see, Janice made a promise to take care of Cory just before she died, and so she lingers. Undead. A ghost that watches out for him.

Brought up in an abusive home, Cory quickly falls into a life of disreputable behavior. After his third offense (which was prompted by a girl, as usual - he has a weakness) he's left with two choices:

1. Be tried as an adult and share a cell with a guy named Bubba (he thinks...)

Or

2. Go to Starkfield Academy, which Cory is pretty sure is run by vampires. But, hey, at least he'll get an education.

He chooses the latter...

It's at Starkfield that Kira meets Cory Rand, a boy with an insatiable Rage who sees ghosts, too. As well as other things, other things from his past, things that confuse him, things like fire and witches and demons.

Things he's always ignored.

Until now.

PROLOGUE

The Puppy Eyes

My life was perfect.

I had the perfect shoes and the perfect friends and I lived in the perfect house.

My nails were perfect and my hair was perfect (except on Sundays, it was always

windy on Sundays) and I had the perfect clothes. My lips were a perfect red and my

hair perfectly straight. My eyeshadow was perfect, my hips were...okay, and my

waist...well...also okay. Nothing was wrong in my life.

But then there was Jack.

Jack was a problem.

He needed to go. I mean, when you’re dead, you’re dead! I had told him this

endlessly. Somehow, Jack didn’t get it. I mean, I felt sorry for the guy. Sure. Being

stuck between this life and the next. But just because I found him, does that mean I

needed to keep him?

I think not!

Sadly, when Jack got that look in his eyes, that weary, almost teary (if his tearducts

worked) look, I melted. I just couldn’t send him away. Not even Jack knew

where he would go after he died.

Would he, like, die? As in — dead, nada, kaput, finito, gone, no more? Bye bye,

sayonara, ciao, hasta la vista baby and all that?

I couldn’t have that on my conscience. No way.

I lay on my bed, wondering what to do about him. “Jaaaaaaack,” I hollered.

“Jaaaaaaack!”

Still no answer.

“Jack!”

Jack...materialized.

His eyes rolled down to the ground. He was making those puppy eyes again.

“Jack, I told you not to do that. I told you not to play on my sympathies.”

His puppy eyes became worse.

His skin was gray and, well, dead.

“Oh, brother,” I said. “I have to do something about you. If mom finds out I have

another ‘imaginary friend’ — at my age — well, I’d die of embarrassment. But, like,

really die. Not like you.” I wondered about this. Would I die? Was Jack a freak

accident, or did all people live on like him? Think of the cemeteries...

The idea excited me somewhat.

“What would you have me do, Miss Kira?”

“Knock off the Miss Kira crap. I told you it’s just Kira.”

“Yes, Miss Kira.”

The dead. There’s just no reasoning.

“Fine, Miss Kira it is then.” Rover barked like a lunatic in the garden. No one

else might be able to see Jack, but I was sure my dog could.

“I have to do something about this,” I mumbled.

-2-

The Rat

Mike knocked on the door before I had time to leave the house. Mike was the

guy I thought (at the time) was perfect.

“Who is it?”

“It’s me, baby.”

Baby, urgh — I wasn’t his baby. I dated Mike because he was the quarterback,

because girls are supposed to like the quarterback, because it’s just so darn perfect to

be seen with the quarterback, like we’re brainwashed into thinking these things from

the first romantic doll set mom buys us.

This was my previous life.

“Mike.”

“Uh-huh. Gonna let me in?”

So you can try rub me up and then complain when I don’t let you? This, dear

reader, was the big problem with Mike. The second we first kissed, his hand went way

too far south for me to be comfortable — and I pulled back.

Mike suddenly wasn’t so perfect.

“Uhm, I was just on my way out,” I said.

“Kira? C’mon, open the door.” He sounded upset. “Is there someone in there

with you?”

Boys. As if.

I didn’t know much about love (nothing, actually) but I knew this wasn’t it.

“Uhm, now’s not the time, Mike.”

“C’mon, Kira, what’s going on?” He banged harder.

When in doubt...lie. I opened the door a crack. “There’s a dead rat in the house,

Mike. Been here for days. I gotta go get some detergent and stuff to handle the

stench.”

Mike stepped back. He peered through the crack of the door.

“It’s really bad,” I said.

“I’ll drive you.”

“I’m afraid the smell” — I stuck my armpit to my nose — “has found its way all

over me. I’ll drive myself.”

“O — okay. Fine.” And then he grinned like he wanted something. “Later? My

place?”

Urgh. “Uhm, sure...er...later. Not sure when though.”

“Six.”

I fought the urge to roll my eyes. According to girls at school, he was apparently

so damn good looking — theoretically. But for me personally, he did nothing. Moved

nothing. Twisted nothing. “Look, I gotta go, Mike. I gotta — ”

“Kira.” His eyes grew stern. “You’ve been avoiding me...”

Bingo! Well done contestant number one! And what have you won? A brain!

I tilted my head. “Mike, look, this...rat — I need to deal with it. We’ll talk later,

okay? Bye.” I closed the door, not waiting for an answer, and peered out the peep

hole. Mike hung around for a second, shoulders wide and eyes glaring straight at me

through the door. Could he see me? Did he know I was looking at him?

He kicked something off the ground, and I had the distinct impression he

mouthed the word Bitch before leaving. But I wasn’t sure...

-3-

The Mack

“Roll down the window, Jack.” Jack was recently dead, so he still had a smell

about him. (Which only I could smell...)

I had purposely skipped breakfast. Maybe Jack would help me lose weight. I was

(still am) a little wide, although it had never stopped guys flirting with me. I know

how to dress.

But I could be skinnier.

Lucy Rogers was skinny. All bones and no boobs.

Charlene Carverton was a babe. Cheerleader. Big chest (which she pushed out

generously with a push-up — if only guys knew). Toned thighs. Charlene only dated

college boys (back then), which I still think is pretty gross for a girl her age.

“He’s not for you,” Jack said out the blue.

“Hmm?”

“This...Mike — he’s wrong for you, Miss Kira.” For all Jack’s faults (mainly,

being dead), he has a good heart. Factually, probably it’s why I kept him around at

first.

“You think I don’t know that?”

“Then why don’t you dump him?”

I braked at a stop sign. Looked left and right. “Because I’d look like an idiot. I

flirted with him and showed interest, and one kiss later I can’t stand the sight of him.”

“So dump him.”

“It’s not that simple. Kids at school — they can be vicious. I have to let it fade

slowly. If I drop the bomb on him, I’ll never hear the end of it through senior year.”

“And you care?”

Yes, I did. Forget Guantanamo, schools are rough. “You don’t understand, Jack.

Maybe school was different in your day. But in mine, well, we walk through metal

detectors.”

“Schools weren’t too different in my day.” I noted the sadness in his voice.

“You okay?”

“I’m dead.”

Right. “You miss...your life?”

Jack shrugged. “I like being with you, Miss Kira. And I don’t remember much of

my life. I think I’m in limbo.”

“Limbo?”

“Yes, like I have some unfinished business. If only I could remember...what...it

is...” He scratched his head.

“Any ideas?”

“Well, it can’t be love. If it were love, I’d be a vampire. That’s who teenage girls

fall in love with these days.”

“A vampire? That’s just what I need — two undead beings stalking me.”

“I feel I have something to do around you, Miss Kira. I don’t know what, but

something. Something important.”

I looked over at him. “Me?”

I was still looking at him when I missed the stop sign.

The Mack truck drove straight into us.

An Unusual Vacation

At thirty-two Dominic Carr thinks it’s time he met a girl he could love. He’s tired and jaded from his high power job, and hoping that this summer’s vacation will be refreshing. When he sees Michelle Vega in the art gallery of a harbor town he visits, her long legs in pink couture shorts grab his attention.
Michelle Vega has everything to hide except her beauty and her instant attraction to Dominic. She’s not on vacation as she visits the gallery—more like on business.
As the two of them fall into a hot romance, Dominic is sure Michelle could be ‘the one,’ but Michelle is filled with doubt when she considers how he might react to discovering her secrets.
When Michelle’s business takes a dangerous twist Dominic finds he’s pulled into a perilous situation.
Will this be a test of his love or the finish of it?

Read an excerpt 18+ (warning adult language)
Michelle turned in the shelter of Dominic’s outstretched arm, and slipped her arm around him.
He smiled with pleasure and held her around the shoulders as he led her across the parking lot and along the walkways to where the River Sprite was moored.

The soft slap of the river water, warm gentle breeze, and yellow lanterns lighting the boardwalk provided a special atmosphere. Dominic helped Michelle aboard and after unlocking the cabin, showed her in with a grin. “Welcome to the River Sprite. I’ll make coffee. You can look around if you’d like to.” He turned into the galley to start making coffee.

“It’s much bigger than I expected. I’ve only been on smaller motorboats.” She gave herself a quick tour.

Dominic heard her opening doors and making sounds of delight. He’d poured boiling water on the coffee granules when she appeared by his side. He turned to her. “I made instant. It’s quicker. White, black, sugar?”

Michelle smiled as she answered. “Black, no sugar, thank you.”

“Would you like cognac? I have some French stuff I bought yesterday.” He handed her a cup of coffee.

Michelle took the cup. “That sounds good. Just a little, please.”

He found glasses and brought the cognac from out of the supply cupboard. As he splashed the dark amber liquid into each glass, Michelle closed the gap between them. Dominic placed the bottle of cognac carefully onto the worktop. Michelle’s proximity sent little shocks of desire through him. Acutely aware of the way her hair fell gently over the satin skin of her shoulders, Dominic’s gaze traced a path along where he wished his lips might follow with kisses.

She put her coffee cup down next to his, and in one move slid her hands up his chest and leaned against his body.

Dominic instinctively put his arms around her. He kissed the top of her head as she nestled her face against his chest. His eyes closed as a wave of tenderness flowed over him. A faint scent of roses filled his head.

Michelle looked up into his eyes. “You feel good. Do you work out?” She ran her hands around on the muscles of his chest.

Even through the black T-shirt he’d worn with his suit, her touch ignited desire and his cock stirred. His heart did a weird flip and his stomach tightened. He nodded, unable to trust his voice not to betray the urgent need to fuck, which gripped him as she ran her hands around his hips and actually grabbed his ass.

She ran her tongue over her top lip as she stared up into Dominic’s eyes and that was it.
Dominic bent his head to hers and captured her mouth in a kiss that weakened his thighs.

He slipped his hands around her face to hold her until he’d kissed her breathless. Hot streaks of desire burned over his stomach and his cock jerked into an erection. Her tongue against his sent shivers down his back to pool under his balls. Soft tendrils of her hair caught under his palms as he held her face and bit at her bottom lip when he broke the kiss to let her breathe.

I originally expected this story to be a short, but as the plot developed and the characters took over, the story grew and grew, and still there’s more to tell, because one of the supporting characters, Connor, is going to have his own story.
Dominic Carr, my hero and Michelle Vega, my heroine, couldn’t be more different, but they are instantly drawn to each other and the resulting passion between them is intense. Dominic’s hopes are high, making him vulnerable. Michelle is involved in a dangerous lifestyle far removed from Dominic’s, but she’s lonely. This opens her up to taking chances when she meets Dominic.
I love water, rivers, and the ocean. They have their own very special atmosphere, and I wanted to flavor the story setting with the sounds, and smells of sun drenched harbor towns, wide rivers and boats, to provide contrast with the suspense element of the story.
When you read the story and Dominic sails away on vacation. Think Monterey or the marinas in the Caribbean or the Florida keys. The sky is Grecian blue, the air and water sparkles. There’s the smell of salt and sea, and wheel of seagulls as the couple walk on the quay together.

A new beginning or a life stuck in the past?

Dare she risk her heart to find a new beginning?

Excerpt:

After setting Tiger on the slate floor, Nanci checked her voice mail on the home phone, but still no call from Bryan. Of course, his mission was a secret, as usual. She had no idea what time zone he was in. It could be the middle of the night for him. After feeding the cat, she settled on the couch with the paperback she’d purchased earlier in the day. Tiger curled beside her, and she became engrossed in the book, especially the part concerning the first trimester of pregnancy.
The doorbell rang.
How odd.
She couldn’t imagine who it could be. Probably some kids selling something.
But a rush of anxiety flooded her system as icy prickles raced along her arms.
The doorbell rang again.
She laid her book down, went to the door, and used the peep hole to look out. Three men in Navy uniforms stood on her front porch.
Her heart caught in her throat.
Three men usually meant bad news, especially naval officers.
No, maybe they have the wrong house. Maybe they’re collecting money for some type of charity.
Anything but what it might mean.
Her body began to shake.
Her knees grew weak.
No, no! She would not allow those terrifying thoughts to enter her consciousness even for a moment.
Nonetheless, her hand trembled as she opened the door. Her voice shook as she said, “Hello. W-what can I d-do for you?”
The older officer removed his cover, tucking it under his arm. “Good afternoon, we’re here to see Mrs. Bryan Bowman.”
“I’m Mrs. Bowman. Please, c-come in.” Terror gripped her as she showed them into the living room.
Her mind screamed—Oh, God, please don’t let Bryan be hurt.

Author Note:
As a Navy wife for many years, I know how hard it is to put fears at bay and go on with your life when your loved one is far from home. I want to thank all the military men and women who serve and protect our great country, along with their families who support and love them.
I spent over twenty years in Hampton Roads, Virginia and grew to love the area. I love the ocean and enjoyed its beauty almost every day as I traveled from Hampton to Virginia Beach where I worked. When this story came to me, I had to make Virginia Beach the setting.
What Nanci goes through in A New Beginning for Nanci is what countless military wives have faced since the creation of our nation. What I want to show in this story is that there is always a new beginning out there. We just have to go after it and not allow tragedy to keep us frozen in fear.

There are lessons learned in this love story. Nanci could have easily stayed locked in her grief instead of seeking God’s help. Both she and Daniel were brought up in faith-based homes, but they had drifted away. Fortunately for them, they chose to return to their childhood faith which helped them move forward into God’s light, depending on Him to guide them to a new beginning that will stand the test of time.

While this is definitely an inspirational romance, it does have a couple of scenes with minimal sensual touches and kissing. Nanci and Daniel have a strong physical attraction between them, so it is hard to resist, but never fear, they do not fully give in to temptation.

"Raw, seductive, powerful. It's time to meet Jack Landon."
Curiosity is a dangerous thing. In Abigail Watson's case, it nearly ended her life.
After a brush with death, Abigail is reminded of just how short life can
be...then she meets Jack Landon, the mysterious heir to the Landon fortune and
her savior from a certain death. Jack's tastes are very defined, and his
ability to seduce with ease draws Abigail into his dark world. One taste of him
on her lips and she is consumed with a desire, a willingness to submit and let
him take the gift that she has protected for so long.

**SYNOPSIS
Seeking refuge, Abigail Watson returns home to mend a broken heart, abandoning the city that she has grown to love and the job she worked hard for years to attain.
Life allows for distraction, but it can't bury the past.
Jack Landon has left an indelible mark on her.  A painful scar, a stolen kiss, a memory of what once was, or could be.
Jack is all of these things, and more. The haunting memories begin to consume her with an unbridled passion.   His domination is absolute. Her submission begs for release.
Their lustful needs could destroy everything around them, turning flame to ash. Friend to enemy, love to hate.
Where there's smoke...you will find the Devil's Fire.
